Part of the "New Audiences for Old Songs" project of musician'scholar Dave Ruch, the song was written by Sara Cleveland, who was among the foremost of New York's ballad collectors and singers. From a mother's perspective, it poignantly explores what it is like at home when her son has gone to war. A new interpretation with period photos, the notation, and the words, An anti-war song like no other.
