Part of the "New Audiences for Old Songs" project of musician'scholar Dave Ruch, the song was written by Sara Cleveland, who was among the foremost of New York's ballad collectors and singers. From a mother's perspective, it poignantly explores what it is like at home when her son has gone to war. A new interpretation with period photos, the notation, and the words, An anti-war song like no other.
The Bentwood Rockers - The Bard & Smokin' Bill played together as an old timey duo for a number of years. It was fun and they reached a lot of new fans. Bill was active on youtube and posted a number of short videos.
